Stewardship Is More Than A Thank You

Not too long ago, people in the fundraising community, would peg stewardship as the thank you letter that was sent to a donor upon receipt of a gift. A form letter with an unrecognized signature, stuffed into a #10 standard envelope and run through the postage machine. In many fundraising shops the gift information would be logged into a donor database and that would be it until the charity went looking for the next gift from the donor.

A production line approach with little in the way of personalization, little in the way of sharing the mission and vision of what the organization was about, in other words a quick fix attitude to saying thank you.

Times are changing. In our nanosecond society where billion dollar fundraising campaigns are becoming commonplace and donor expectations have surged past long standing traditions, a one time thank you letter is not enough. Donor retention is uppermost in the minds of fundraising leaders.

How do you handle stewardship?

Tough economic times of the last three years there have put more pressure on fundraisers looking to meet this year's goals. Acquisition of the gift today has become a measuring stick for performance for many not-for-profits. Getting that first gift is important. What a charity does to retain that donor and how it works toward building a long-term relationship speaks to the process and methodology of stewardship.

You will find Question & Answer discussions that I have had with a number of people who live stewardship, day in and day out. These Q & A chapters have been organized in such a way as to get you thinking about what, how and why you do things in donor relations.

Throughout this section you will find some Workbook Questions for you to answer. Go ahead, jot down some notes, some ideas that come to mind. You can use this publication as part of your fundraising toolkit.

This article is a keeper. One that you will want to go back and refer to six months, maybe a year from now to track your progress along the journey. So grab a pen and jot it down as you go.

Question: How much does it cost to acquire a new donor for your organization?

Choose Annual Giving, Major Gift or Planned Giving as your base. Or you could do this for all three.

Question: How often do you look at these management statistics on acquiring new donors? (circle your answer)

A. Every six months

B. Once a year

C. Once every two years D. Not being done, yet

Some charities have become proactive in enhancing the relationships with their donors. Part of the process begins with effective plan on how to access and use the database systems you have paid for. Information management is becoming increasingly important.

However, research suggests that something is missing in many fundraising shops. There appears to be a direct correlation between the importance given to stewardship and the fundraising success of the organization. Better stewardship........better results.

A starting point

Stewardship means many things to the fundraising community. How would you define it and more importantly, how does the rest of your fundraising team define the concept called stewardship?

Question: Define Stewardship in a sentence or two.

Once you make your notes, share with a fundraising associate and see what they think. Do you share the same point of view?

Being able to agree on a common definition of "stewardship" is a formative step in the process. Once accomplished this allows the fundraising team to evolve it's own style of working with donors. Over time the culture of stewardship can grow and thrive within the organization in such a way that donors can feel a genuine sense of belonging, an attachment to what you do and why you do it.

Stewardship guidelines

Do you rely on your memory about how you or a departed staff person last spoke to or communicated with a Major Gift donor? Do you have a system in place to write down and record stewardship activities for future reference? Do you have a consistent process of engaging and qualifying donors in one category to see if they are suitable to move to the next level? Stewardship guidelines can help.

Clearly defined parameters in donor relations can help boost efficiency, productivity and the morale of fundraisers. Intangibles like internal morale and sense of purpose, can be galvanized in the process of defining what a fundraiser does. How much time do you spend on developing a Mission Statement? How much time did you spend defining stewardship?

Recently stewardship has begun to develop an infrastructure, more formalized in the large shops and less so in the smaller ones. Stewardship is much more than just saying thank you after a donation has been received.

There is a series of steps and process, there is an attitude, there is a culture of stewardship that surrounds and envelopes people. Saying thank you is just one step in the stewardship circle. How do you define stewardship? Jot it down and refer back later on, see if your perspective has changed.

There is a transformation underway in the fundraising community that is centered around the concept of stewardship. The appointment of staff, the allocation of budget, the heightened awareness of the very word stewardship is evolving before our eyes. In the introduction I likened this emergence to a butterfly with a unique life force all unto itself. The inference of stewardship extends beyond information management of donors.

In early November of 2003, at the New England Stewardship Conference, a new entity the Association for Donor Relations Professionals (ADRP) was formally announced. Position announcements are calling for a Director of Stewardship in education, health care, social services, the arts community and other fundraising organizations.

The transformation is gathering speed and with it comes the layers of complexity justly deserved for a notion that was once just a wink and a nod and hearty thank you embrace.

Theory of Implied Stewardship

Something new to think about. Why does a first time donor choose a specific charity for their donation? The reasons are likely varied depending on the individual and what has touched them in their lifetime. One underlying premise is that the donor selected that charity because they had faith in what the charity was going to do with their donation. How did they arrive at that decision?

History. The historical past of the charity comes to bear on the current day decisions to make a donation. The outward stewardship of previous fundraising efforts is distributed throughout the community by press releases, TV interviews, newspaper thank you ads and word of mouth from one person to the next. Long before the fundraising ASK is made the prospective donor has an opinion about the charity. An opinion that is shaped in a modest way by the implied messages, of stories of how the charity has been accountable for money raised and spent. Stewardship extends in two directions, back to the current donors and forward in an implied context to those who would consider the charity with their next gift.

Get people talking about stewardship

Make some notes, shares your thoughts with colleagues in and outside of your organization. Stewardship will be defined in the manner you choose it to be. One thing is for certain, accountability will be foremost in the eyes of the donors.

"...the mind once expanded by a new idea

can not shrink back to its original size." ( from an unknown author.)

Dry Skin Treatment With Herbal and Ayurvedic Remedies

Excessively dry skin can put a great dampener on the overall appearance of the person. Dry skin lacks the glow and the sheen of normal skin. It can become easily scratched and cracked, due to which there could be bruises on the skin even with slight frictions. Dry skin also loses its natural color. For all these reasons, it is very necessary to get dry skin treated as soon as possible.

Dry skin is generally caused due to environmental conditions. It is observed in cold weather, when the climate is too dry and cool. Since the climate is dry, it absorbs the water content of the skin, due to which it becomes dry. In this sense, dry skin is caused by vata vitiation. But sometimes, the skin becomes dry in the hot season also. If this happens, then the cause is a pitta vitiation.

(1) Useful Herbs/Plants in the Treatment of Dry skin

1. Aloe vera (Aloe vera)

Aloe vera replenishes the skin by providing the nutrients it lacks. Its extracts are used for massaging the skin.

2. Apple (Malus domestica)

Apple contains potassium and tannin which are both necessary to maintain the healthy texture of the skin. Apple not only removes the dryness of the skin, but also makes it appear shinier.

3. Cucumber (Cucumis sativus)

Cucumber is beneficial if the dryness is especially over the face. The juices of the cucumber have a cooling effect on the face. Also the juices provide the lost water content to the face and reduce its dryness.

(2) Dietary Treatments for Dry skin

Since dry skin is caused due to vata or pitta vitiation, the diet should be designed to reduce these vitiations. Vata is the air element; while pitta is the fire element. The following guidelines must be followed:-

1. Cook your food in a little fat, suitably ghee. The food must not be totally dry.

2. If the dry skin is a result of vata vitiation (dry skin in cold weather), then eat foods that are heavy on the stomach. But do not use much spices.

3. If the dry skin is a result of pitta vitiation (dry skin in hot weather), then eat light foods that are easy to digest. Use more fibers in the diet.

4. Sweet foods are good for both vitiations.

5. Eat lots of fruits. Consume more of the sweet foods to build up the starch content in the skin.

6. The best condiments and spices to be used in the diet are cumin, coriander and turmeric. These soothe the skin.

7. Water is the most important part of the diet for correcting dry skin. About 7 to 8 glasses of water must be consumed in a day. But the water should be at room temperature. Cold water will aggravate the vata further.

8. Avoid alcohol and caffeine-containing beverages since they can make the skin drier.

(3) Home Medications

a. In order to reduce the dryness of the skin, massage therapy must be used. Any herbal oil will do for the massage. Almond, avocado and olive oils are the best. The whole skin must be massaged and fingers must be used to dig deeper so as to pass the oil into the skin. After the massage, you must wait for about half an hour (keep the massaged skin exposed to the air if possible) and then go for a bath. The period helps the oil to permeate into the skin.

b. If the dryness is on the face, then make a paste of about a teaspoonful of rose water and two of honey. Smear this paste nicely on the face. Let it remain for a couple of minutes and then wash it off with slightly warm water.

c. Mayonnaise gives good results when applied on the dry skin and let be for some time.

d. An apple can be used for treating excessive dryness of the skin. Cut an apple in half and run its fleshy part on the skin. Apply a bit of pressure and squeeze the apple onto the skin to let its juices flow in.

e. Do not use tap water for washing the face. Tap water contains chloride ions which may harm the dry skin. Use mineral water instead. In a similar manner, do not use an ordinary soap on the skin. There are soaps available with moisturizers. Use them when having your bath.

Maintain a proper daily regimen. Try to get up at a fixed time each morning and go to bed at a fixed time. The adage 'Early to bed and early to rise makes a person healthy, wealth and wise' is very true in the case of dry skin.

Regular exercise is also important. Exercise makes the blood circulate better, due to which the nutrients are transported to all parts of the body. This will make the skin moister.

Squash Grips - Knowing How to Grip, and Grip Replacement

Squash grips, is the term used to describe the methods used in holding the squash racquet during play, and also the material that is used on the end of the racquet to increase grip. It's important to fully understand how holding your racquet in different ways affects your performance, and hand in hand with this, how having a good grip material helps.

Generally, the method you use in your grips is down to personal preference and what works best for you. However there are some quick tips which can improve your grips and improve your game. Holding the grip more towards the bottom of the racquet has different advantages to holding higher up the racquet. Holding the low end of the squash grip allows for increased reach and leverage. The increased reach will help you reach those shots that normally might just zip by your racquet. There are also some advantages to holding the grip further up the racquet, more control for one. The racquet will feel light and you will be able to react quicker for drop shots, quick volleys and responding to those deep back wall shots more efficiently.

Replacing the grip on your squash racquet is necessary to keeping your grip effective. Overuse can lead to a slippery grip, and this will ultimately affect your performance. Replacing the squash tape is simple, but choosing what kind of replacement tape to use requires a little research. There are different kinds of squash grip materials to use. If you are just looking for some extra bulk on your squash grip to make it more comfortable or easy to hold, a thin over grip is probably the best option. If you are replacing the entire squash grip, then opt for a thick replacement grip. When choosing the type of squash grip tape to use, look for features such as tackiness for better grip, and also how dry the grip will stay while in use. There are plenty of styles and colours to suite your tastes but ensure you are getting the correct type, and features on the grip you choose.

Being able to adequately hold your racquet is key to your game. Having a good quality grip material will give you a much needed edge in a sport where your racquet is your key to success. grips are relatively low in price and should be replaced regularly to ensure professional upkeep of your equipment.

Make an Environmentally Friendly Choice, Choose an ICF Concrete Wall

Most people today are aware of the fact that we have a responsibility to protect and conserve the environment around us. The problem is most people enjoy the luxuries that do damage to the environment. If money were not an issue, which would you prefer for your four person family - a three bedroom, three bathroom, three car garage house or a one bedroom, one bathroom, no garage home? Most people in North America would choose the larger home because they are obliviously more comfortable. But, we all know by making this choice we choose to use a greater amount of energy and do more potential harm to the environment. Or do we? With advances in construction, contractors can build homes that are extremely well insulated and use a greater amount of recycled materials in the actual building process. Welcome to the world of insulated concrete forms.

Insulated concrete forms (ICFs) are an advancement in the construction industries that offers potential home builders the opportunity to create comfortable homes that are energy efficient and use mostly recycled materials. An ICF concrete wall is created by stacking foam blocks on top of one another and pouring cement into the middle of the blocks. The foam is then left attached to the wall itself. Two layers of foam with concrete sandwiched in the middle means a huge amount of insulation, and this of course means a home that uses less energy.

The ICF foam block is a huge advancement in using less energy. The block itself can be manufactured using recycled materials. The metal interior that holds the foam together can be a recycled alloy. The foam can be created using recycled materials. These two opportunities allow a home owner the peace of mind that the material used to create his or her home made a minimum impact on the environment.

Concrete is becoming more and more environmentally friendly. Today, cement that is poured into ICF forms is most often much better for the environment then cutting down trees in the forest, hauling them to the mill, having them wastefully milled into two by fours, and then delivered to job sites. Using concrete to build a home reduces that home's carbon footprint right from the start.

Web 2.0 Real Estate Marketing - It's Social!

The visionaries behind The Cluetrain Manifesto prophetically summed up our current market opportunity in the first of 95 theses--"Markets are conversations." The folks you want as customers are increasingly expecting conversations with their real estate or mortgage broker. Your challenge? Figure out how to make an introduction. And I am going to give you the secrets--step-by-step...

Listen First

Since markets are conversations, the nice thing is people (generally) don't mind you joining the discussion. This gives you an enormous free classroom. Take advantage of it.

Listen to other experts, competitors, and practitioners. But, most importantly listen to your customers.

The interesting thing about listening to your colleagues and competitors is that you can see how they are talking to their customers and then benchmark their success. Nowhere is it easier to do competitive intelligence than on the Web. If they are marketing on the Web, all the easier.

Looking for the smartest and best in the business at Web 2.0 real estate marketing? They are the folks watching their prospective customers. Here are the key questions want to know about my customers in the social Web?

Who are they? Who do they talk to? What do they talk about? What words they use?

I highlighted a very important concept above, but let's not get too far ahead.

Obviously, from the title--Real Estate Marketing--we are all in the real estate or mortgage business. Don't forget your customers are not. They don't talk to real estate people. They don't talk about home inspections, escrows, seller concession, and mortgages, unless forced to. And they don't know what FHA, subprime, and Fannie Mae are.

Search is your friend, especially the blog search engines. Remember you are looking for conversations. Conversations about homes, buying homes, refinancing homes, mortgages, mortgage brokers, mortgage scams, real estate rip offs (yes, look for hateful conversations too). Here are some good places to start for conversations:

Technorati Google Blogsearch IceRocket Twitter FriendFeed

Back to words! This is the number one failure in marketing and a death sentence in Internet real estate marketing. Words are how customers find us on the Web. If you use words that they don't--you guessed it: No conversation!

These conversations, from blogs, discussion groups, and Twitter, are short and candid. Write them down and use them.

Identify a Niche

You know where they are, who they talk to, and the funny words they use. The next order of business is to find out what they want (not what they need)--another common marketing blunder.

Their conversations will tell you this valuable information. It will reveal their pain, like their monthly payments going up unexpectedly, a job loss, or may be a divorce that is going to force them to reconsider their current home or loan. Maybe they are just concerned about getting a bargain on a foreclosure, short sell, or distressed spec home.

Once you know what they want and how they ask for it, time to start building your Web 2.0 mortgage marketing platform.

Building a Web 2.0 Social Platform

Web 2.0 real estate marketing is all about directly engaging your potential customers in conversation, but you need an identity. This is what your website or blog needs to be. Almost every social service or application on the Internet associates you with a website. If you don't have a URL for people to learn more about you your efforts are already dashed.

How you design and build you home base is critical to your success. Did I mention it is your identity? This is how people are going to decide if they want your expert real estate counsel.

I typically suggest a blog. It is simple and versatile. Plus, it is a conversation.

Here are a few suggestions on where to get a blog:

Wordpress.com Blogger.com Typepad.com

The other consideration to this platform is your name (identity), which in the Web world is a domain name. Take some time in figuring out the right name. It doesn't have to be your company name, and probably shouldn't be.

Here are some creative guidelines:

Consider your list of words your customers use Consider the niche you have selected Short is better Register only .com, .org, .net

With your social identity and home in place it is time to fill it with credibility.

Content in King

Web copy is the current king of Internet marketing and lead generation. You need to not only know how to write, but what to write. Again, go back to your list of words your customers use. Take each one and design your Web site to talk about each of these key words.

A good resources on writing good copy for your website or blog is Copyblogger.com.

Your written words are critical because they are the language of Google and other search engines. However, don't miss the growing importance of other media types, like audio and video. These richer media types help to make a more personal conversation. Consider adding in podcast, short audio messages, as well as video into your social platform.

Here are some resources for developing out your audio and video content:

TalkShoe.com BlogTalkRadio.com YouTube.com Revver.com

Content builds credibility and trust, the two critical components in any sales. Make sure your real estate marketing plan understands the impact of content to a simpler sale.

Develop Amplifier Relationships

Okay, we have a platform and lots of valuable content. But, who knows about it? The Internet is a big place. You, alone, screaming into an already buzzing conference hall filled with good conversations is not going to get you noticed.

You need amplifiers. People who find you interesting and are willing to tell others. Hopefully, some of these already have a big audience.

This, like the conventional offline Rolodex, is the role of social networks. Connecting with people who have audiences is the quickest way to get into the conversation.

Great places to build a social network of amplifiers:

These are all great tools and people on the Web love to share, but no one likes someone how takes advantage of a relationship. Be respectful and add value first. Even in little ways.

Distribution Makes a Kingdom

Being a king is only interesting if you command a kingdom.

In the Internet world that is an audience of potential buyers that respond to your recommendations and/or you have a networks of amplifiers that brings this ability.

Creating that real estate marketing kingdom is a process of distributing your name, your value, and your content.

The most effective way of executing that distribution is built into a lot of the principles I have already introduced:

Blogs (RSS) Twitter (140 character ads) Delicious (Bookmarking content) Digg (Voting up content) Stumbleupon (Voting up content)

Add to these inherent distribution channels some well placed personal emails and you will be a real estate marketing tycoon in no time.

Assembling the Web 2.0 Toolbox

You have the road map. A real estate marketing plan that should have you flowing leads in no time, but what are some tools you should have on hand to run your new real estate marketing empire?

Here are some of the basics:

Google Analytics (website analytics) Twhirl (Twitter client) Camtasia Studio (Windows) or SnapZ Pro (Mac) Webcam Microphone

The key to building your real estate marketing platform is trying, testing, tweaking and re-testing. These tools allow you to produce and try a variety of approaches to your social market, which is the quickest way to real estate lead generation success.

Best Natural Remedies For Hypothyroidism

First of all, we have to discuss what hypothyroidism is. It is mainly a disease in the thyroid glands which is located in the neck area. This gland is a very vital part in our body because of its production of hormones. These hormones will be distributed all over the body which keeps us healthy. If the thyroid glands are not producing enough of the hormones, it will have a massive effect into our entire health. The insufficient supply of hormones from the glands is called hypothyroidism.

Before you might even cure it, the first thing you need to know is how to avoid having it. What the thyroid needs is a proper supply of essential nutrients and vitamins. If we take foods and supplements that help keep our thyroid healthy, we are always be sure to be away from any disease of the said glands.

If you are already having the disease, here are some natural hypothyroidism remedies that you can use:

· Iodine - this is probably the most important element in keeping the thyroid healthy. It is the main source of the thyroid's overall health. If we take good amounts of iodine, we will sure to have a healthy thyroid gland that is producing the right amount of hormones.

There are natural remedies you can make to get iodine. Eating foods that are high with it will keep you having the proper amount of supply. Vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, and fruits like papaya and mangoes are good sources of iodine. Seafood is also known to have high with it, so make sure you add these to your diet.

· Selenium - most people who have hypothyroid is being prescribed with selenium. It is a strong antioxidant. It also acts as a medium for converting the T4 thyroid hormones into T3 hormones which is the more active form. That way, the hormone-producing gland will be more active and can produce more. We can get selenium from food groups such as cod, tuna, mushrooms, snapper, halibut and salmon. But before taking any of these selenium diet and other supplements, better consult your doctor first. Some people are not that into selenium and it might have an effect to them.

· Tyrosine - the body needs a good amount of Tyrosine because it helps manufacture the thyroid hormones from iodine. It also helps in producing the appropriate count of hormones. We can get a good supply of tyrosine from foods like lean meat, fish, wheat, oats, and dairy products.

· Exercise - this is probably the most effective natural hypothyroidism remedies. When the body gets going, it will be more active. That will also result in the activation of the thyroid glands. When we have a problem with our thyroids, we tend to get weaker. But the key is to always keep a sound body. That will keep all the system in the body working well.

Those are the natural hypothyroidism remedies. Make sure you apply them carefully into your lifestyle for you to cure your disease more quickly.

Achieving Self-Employment Success - Training Can Make the Difference

Everyone wants to be successful. Think about it, no one sets out on any venture with a goal of failure. The guiding principle is always success. That isn't always what happens, though. Some people fail to reach their goals. Some wallow in mediocrity, hoping to someday experience victory.

What's the difference between those who "make it" and those who never do? Obviously, there are many different factors that can play a role. Dedication, skills, effort, determination, creativity, personality and location can all influence results. When all other things are at least approximately equal, however, there is one thing that often separates those at the top from those who still yearn for a taste of success: Training.

That's right, training. It can be the dividing line between a business venture's success of failure. That's because those who lack adequate success training often find themselves overwhelmed as they start working on their business opportunity. They fall behind, fail to grasp key concepts quickly enough and end up in a rough situation. This doesn't just lead to a disappointment with respect to a single business venture, it can often sour one on the very idea of self-employment for a long time.

You wouldn't expect someone who's never been coached to take the mound in a professional baseball game and to prevail against the competition. It's just as silly to think that someone who's never had a lesson in running a particular type of business to enter the competitive arena and to experience success. Training is a necessity.

As such, anyone considering a business opportunity or self-employment program should look for quality training. Good mentorship and education in the particular opportunity should be considered an absolute, no-compromise, prerequisite. After all, it can mean the difference between the "thrill of victory and the agony of defeat".

Finding and Utilizing Used Kitchen Cabinets

Are your old kitchen cabinets looking outdated and tacky? Worse than that, are they battered beyond repair? You probably already know that it's going to be necessary to rip out the old cabinets and replace them with something more sturdy, but you just can't justify the high cost of brand new cabinets. It could be that you're looking to replace cabinets in a rental property or at a lake home and don't want to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on fancy cabinets, too. You'll find that even open stock models don't come cheap. You can, however, look for used kitchen cabinets which can be refinished and hung for a fraction of the cost.

You might wonder where you can find used cabinets, and the answer is everywhere. If you have a salvage yard nearby, they are sure to get in used cabinets that people have removed from their kitchens. Since their inventory will change all the time, you'll probably have to keep watch until the type of cabinets you're looking for come in. There are times when you'll be able to purchase high-end cabinetry in like-new condition that someone has removed from their home in order to redecorate. If you can find their old cabinets, you're really in luck, because you may be able to install them in your own house without any refinishing being necessary.

Craigslist is another place where you can sometimes find used kitchen cabinets. When people remodel, they would rather not pay the cost for having their old cabinets hauled away. Instead, they stick them in the garage or basement and then advertise them for sale, either really cheap, or even free if all they're looking for is someone to haul them away. The great thing about Craigslist is that you can find listings in nearby areas, so you won't have to drive a long way to pick up anything you find. In addition, you can look farther away if you like and check into having the cabinets shipped to you. Naturally, the most cost effective way to get new cabinets is by finding them free and hauling them yourself.

Online auction sites, such as eBay, are also places where you can look for used kitchen replacement cabinets. Once again, people are just looking to have someone take them off of their hands, so prices will be minimal. You may even be able to negotiate and strike a price that's good for both of you. Some sellers will ship large items to you, and others will require that you pick them up. Either way, you can end up getting a really great deal.

It may be that you'll have to reconfigure your kitchen plans a bit in order to accommodate the layout of the cabinets you find, so make sure to purchase your used kitchen cabinets prior to starting your remodel. By looking locally and online, you'll find great used kitchen cabinets at super discount prices.

Vancouver 2010 Olympics Security May Stay in Place Longer

The design for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics Security system includes hundreds of closed circuit surveillance cameras for downtown Vancouver. Over 900 cameras will be activated to watch the crowds during the Olympic games from the security forces which are being put together to watch for criminal activity and medical emergencies. This will also provide a means to watch traffic and hopefully be able to control traffic problems that may occur. This is all part of the plans put together by Olympic officials, the city of Vancouver, and security forces and teams of local law enforcement officials. This is part of the major security effort to protect the crowds, the athletes, visitors, and as a prevention tool for any possible trouble.

Over 90 camera have been installed for the Vancouver Olympics Security system at the two main party sites in downtown Vancouver. Cameras have also been placed at the pedestrian malls that have been set up for the Olympic games while they are in town. The cameras have all been rented and are scheduled to be taken down after the 2010 games are completed and the Paralympic Games have concluded in late March. All cameras are scheduled to be activated starting February 1. This will provide some extra time for officials to utilize the closed circuit system before the real crowds move in for the games.

All of this business of closed circuit cameras on the street corners has caused somewhat of a debate in the city between activist groups and the city government. It is not clear whether the cameras will be taken down after the target date. The city government wants more dialogue on the subject of leaving the cameras in place on a more permanent basis. Of course the B.C. Civil Liberties Association and the Surveillance Studies Centre has indicated the social and democratic impact of mass surveillance must be considered before any such action takes place. The city government has countered by saying that the pros and the cons of the situation will be looked at carefully.

The debate is likely to continue for some time from both sides of the issue. In the meantime, with so much on the line the Vancouver 2010 Olympics Security system, including closed circuit television cameras on the streets will be up and ready to go. It will be interesting to see how successful this new security approach will be and what the final analysis will provide to those in law enforcement.

Magic the Gathering With Magic Single Cards

Magic singles means the individual objects or cards utilized in the collectable card game Magic the Gathering published by Wizards of the Coast. When developing a collection a lot of people attempt to obtain as many cards as they can, so they could produce any deck they choose depending on structure and other deck construction standards.

Most players may obtain new cards by exchanging off older, undesired cards or duplicates over the normal 4 of each you would need to have a what is known as play set.

Many Magic singles can be extremely worthy dependent upon the structure of tournament play you happen to be considering. Some cards can range in the 10 to 20 dollar range with a couple select cards fetching the amount of Three hundred to 500 dollars. By far the most high-priced card is worth in the neighborhood of Four to 5 thousand dollars and is known as a Black Lotus.

Gamers also develop a collection by opening booster boxes. This practice is recognized as ripping boxes, in which the individual booster packs are opened with the aim of chasing a small selection of cards. Many players hope the value of the cards they do not need will undoubtedly be sufficient to warrant the cost of the box and cards they preserve will basically be free, minus some labor of opening the packs and sorting the cards. Many gamers place a superior value on their collection of Magic cards. Oftentimes they go as far as to protect their collection under an insurance protection to protect against loss caused by fire or theft.

Eventually the intention of almost all gamers is to secure plenty of cards as achievable.

When gamers obtain cards, the procedure of deck building will begin. Building a Magic deck will take time and practice. Oftentimes gamers will start using a deck list taken from another source such a web-site with exposure of past competitions. It is common to list out the highest Eight deck lists through most events. Participants replicate these deck lists as a starting point for deck. They will play a bit of test games to observe how a deck runs against the different matchups they expect to encounter.

Next play testing, they might help make changes to the deck list by replacing cards in the primary deck or even the sideboard depending on the outcome s of the play test.

Making Part Time Telemarketing Pay Dividends With the Right List

In all honesty, part time telemarketing is quite an oversaturated industry nowadays. Due to their ease of entry and the fact that more and more people have access to the Internet, it has become an almost casual past time that has caught the fancy of opportunity seekers around the world. It is a good way to open up another revenue stream, strengthen their financial security and give them something to fall back on when times get tough. Well, those "tough times" have arrived with an economic crisis of gigantic proportions.

News media and politicians have been throwing the word out; never before in a hundred years has the economic superstructure of the world crashed so heavily and quickly. First, it was the tell tale signs of the banks and the sub prime markets, bad credit was the cancer that went unchecked at the heart of the economic world. As consumer capitalism showed the cracks within the system, the unravelling of the world's economy was inevitable. Big names went down hard and fast and the average consumer suddenly had a lot less spending power.

In the wake of hundreds and thousands of job losses, people around the world have been seeking alternative ways to earn an income, especially those who had been placed on the chopping block. Slow and steady growth is the assumption nowadays and the Internet still has opportunities left to give out. It almost goes without saying that the Internet would be the saviour for those proficient with its resources and able to capitalize on the advantages that the Internet presents. Home-based job opportunities are constantly available online, and perhaps the most enduring one of all must be telemarketing.

If you have chosen telemarketing as your strategy to open up another revenue stream for yourself, then it is a decision that is fraught with potential hiccups. You need to be prepared and you need the right tools to pry open the shell of the Internet population and find the right markets where your product will not have to fight its way into easy acceptance and even a purchasing decision.

One of the excellent ways to come in to a battle half won is to get the right list in your hands. A highly targeted business list means that you are approaching a market that already has the potential to say "Yes!" and fork out the money. If you simply have a shoddy "cut and paste" list with no idea of demographics and market mixture, then you will find failure at every turn. We don't sell meat to vegetarians. It may perhaps be an overly simple example of the issue but it could not be any truer. Do your own research and if you have the time, start compiling a list of people you know will be interested in the product. If not, purchase one from a company dedicated to building highly targeted lists for all of your marketing needs.

Remember, in order to succeed in telemarketing you will need a list that has the highest potential for sales conversion, and picking numbers right out of the phone book will never cut it if you're looking to make your venture into part time telemarketing pay high dividends.

Emergency Exits and Bus Accidents

Buses travel thousands of miles each year on US roads and highways. Whether carrying sports teams, school children, travelers, or providing everyday transportation, buses are responsible for huge numbers of passengers in their time of operation. Just like any other vehicle on the road, buses can be involved in harmful accidents. A bus accident is often magnified by the number of people involved and the large size of the vehicle. These two factors can contribute to frightening situations and a need for emergency preparations. Emergency exits, which are required by the US Department of Transportation, can allow people to quickly escape dangerous situations when they arise.

Emergency situations generally occur without much warning. Bus passengers are especially vulnerable in these instances because, unlike in smaller vehicles, most seats do not have seat belts to keep a passenger safely in place during a collision. Many injuries occur in bus accidents from people being flung from their seats. In the midst of a chaotic accident scenario, knowing how to get away from a dangerous situation quickly can be crucial to a person's well-being. Also, being able to access people and quickly getting them proper care can be a matter of life or death.

Because of these reasons, emergency exits are a necessary attribute to any bus. The Department of Transportation requires that laminated safety glass that is designed to resist shattering is used in buses. Emergency exit windows made of safety glass provide large spaces through which passengers can exit in the event of an emergency. These exits must be clearly marked so that they can be recognized in any situation. Also, there may be no more than two mechanical operations required to remove the safety glass.

It is crucial that emergency exits are in place and properly maintained on any bus, because there is always the potential for a dangerous accident to occur. Some bus companies are not always in compliance with these regulations. Ensure that you can identify emergency exits on any bus you occupy and hold the bus company accountable for ensuring their proper operation.

Making Model Railway Scenery

If you are looking for tips on making model railway scenery, then let me help. I don't claim to be an expert model scenery builder, but I would like to share a couple of ways to build model scenery on a budget. I know times are tough now for many, so using affordable and free materials is a must.

As a model railway fan, I have spent many hours building model railway tunnels and creating realistic model train layouts to scale. I want to show you how you can build realistic looking settings using real materials, because I think if you want it to look real, use should use real materials. You can find many of the objects you can see on a professional layout in your garden, garage and in your home. Gravel, dirt, grass and wood from tree branches all come in handy, are free and look exceptional on a model railway.

Making model railway scenery is something of an art form for many, and if you look at some of the best layouts, you can see how many builders can be called artists. If you want to build on a budget, then you need to use a couple of simple tips, to make it very cheap and very easy. Saving money and time is important for many builders, although some like to take their time, and let the build come naturally.

Making model railway scenery, a few tips.

Tip 1. Keep everything, do not throw anything you use to make your layout away. Store even the smallest bits of build material in glass jars, label them and store them so you can see exactly what you have. You will be surprised how many expert builders do this, as every piece of material can turn into something of use.

Tip 2. The world is not flat, and neither should your model railway layout. Making model railroad scenery look real means you must have the odd lump and bump, hill and mountain if possible. A tip for modern railway layouts is adding graffiti to your carriages or buildings, it really does make it look like the real world.

Adding scenery to your layout must be done in the correct way to give the effect of depth and scale. Using smaller trees in the background, and larger ones closer to the front will help in making model railway scenery look more realistic. A final helpful tip is choosing your era and sticking to it. Having trains and carriages from one time era, and cars and houses from another may cause a time confusion in your layout.
